Handwara, Sep 16: In a proud moment for Kupwara, 21-year-old Owais Manzoor from Hangishart village, Langate, has made history by becoming the first commercial pilot from the district.
Selected by Air India, Owais has brought laurels to the entire district and has set an inspiring example for young aspirants.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Owais shared how his fascination with the planes began in childhood. “I was always curious about what was inside the cockpit,” he said. Despite having no prior knowledge of the aviation field, he persisted with hard work and determination.

“The journey wasn’t easy,” Owais admitted, highlighting the challenges he faced, but he credited his success to God’s blessings and his relentless efforts. “By the grace of God and my dedication, I have finally achieved my goal.”
Owais urged parents and teachers not to impose career choices on children, encouraging them instead to allow young minds to pursue their interests. “Children should be given the freedom to follow their passion, be it as a pilot, engineer, or something else,” he remarked.
His father Manzoor, expressed immense pride and joy in his son’s achievement. “We had little knowledge about this field, but I always believed in my son. I provided him with all the support he needed, and today, he has made me proud,” Manzoor said, reflecting on their journey together.
Owais completed his 10th and 12th grades in Kashmir before pursuing his dream outside the Union Territory. His batch was kept on standby after taking his exams in August last year. Yesterday, he finally received the awaited email from Air India, confirming his selection as a commercial pilot.
Reflecting on his journey, Owais stated the importance of staying focused on one’s goals. “Those who dream of becoming pilots must stay committed and not lose sight of their ambitions,” he advised young aspirants, ending with a message of hope and perseverance.
