Jammu, Dec 29: Power Development Department (PDD) has disconnected over seven thousand power connections in different areas of Jammu city.
The drive has been launched by PDD against the power consumers who have not paid their pending dues/bills despite repeated reminders by the department.
“The drive against the defaulters has been launched in the areas of Jammu City where Smart Meters have been installed,” PDD Axion of Sub Division Gandhi Nagar, Ashok Chibber, informed Rising Kashmir, when contacted, and added, “The power supply of the consumers, whose pending dues/bills are over Rs 30,000, is being disconnected in the drive”.
Meanwhile, PDD Axion of Jammu City, Avneet Gupta, said that the action is being taken against the power consumers who have not paid their dues/bills since the last more than 3 months.
More than four thousand and five hundred (4500) power connections have been disconnected in the last few days in the PDD’s drive against the defaulters in Jammu City including areas of old city (i.e areas of city at one end of Tawi bridge), while the power connections of more than twenty five hundred (2500) consumers have been  disconnected in the metered areas of Sub Division Gandhi Nagar including areas of Posh locality Gandhi Nagar and Trikuta Nagar, Gangyal, Digiana Shastri Nagar and other adjoining areas.
There is an IT command centre at Narwal and the PDD officials no longer need to visit each and every house for taking action. The power supply of the defaulters in the Smart Metered areas of Jammu is disconnected automatically.
This is the first phase of PDD’s drive in which action is being taken against the consumers who have not paid their pending dues exceeding Rs 30,000 since the last 3 months.
In the next phase action will be taken against consumers whose pending dues between Rs 5000 to 10,000.
