SRINAGAR: After the School Education Department completed a 20-day long enrolment drive across the Kashmir Valley, 2,581 dropout students have returned to Government schools in 91 educational zones of the Kashmir valley.
An official from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) told Rising Kashmir that the 20-day formal enrolment drive, which was started on March 15, 2022, in 10 districts of the Kashmir valley, was completed on April 5.
“Under this enrolment drive, the students across Kashmir totalling 72,724 were admitted to 9,830 government schools, of which 2,581 dropout students have rejoined for further education, while 50,995 students got fresh admission,” he said.
The official said that during the drive, the highest number of students were enrolled in the Baramulla district, where 17,235 students got admission to 1,927 government schools. Kupwara district is the second district in Kashmir valley, where 10,244 students were admitted to 1,479 government schools, while in the other districts of the Kashmir valley like Budgam, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, and Bandipora, 44,244 students were enrolled in 6,424 government schools.
“Under this enrolment drive, 36,586 male students and 35,145 female students have gotten admission in the government schools in the 91 educational zones of the 10 districts of the Kashmir Valley,” he said.
Officials said that under this enrolment drive, 845 children with special needs (CWSN) or Special abled childrens have been admitted to various government schools. So, these specially abled children can also pursue their education free of cost in the government schools across the Kashmir valley.
“The 18,244 students from the private schools across the Kashmir valley have joined the government schools under the 20-day formal enrolment drive that was completed on April 5 of this month,” he said.
Adding that under this enrollment drive, the teachers visited the doorsteps of the people to get their wards enrolled in government-run schools while assuring them that quality education will be provided to their children by qualified teachers.
Officials further said that proper counselling was provided to the parents who were not sending their children to the schools or to those students who had left their education in the middle, as presently 2,581 dropped students have returned to the schools across Kashmir under this enrollment drive.
