Srinagar, Feb 29: The Samagra Shiksha J&K has successfully implemented various programs at the grassroots level to enhance the education of Children with Special Needs (CWNS) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rakesh Magotra, the Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, informed Rising Kashmir that there are 19,054 CWNS students in Jammu and Kashmir, with 15,000 enrolled in Government schools and 4,000 in private schools.
“The Samagra Shiksha has provided wheelchairs, CP Chairs, MD Kits, hearing aids, and other necessary aids and appliances to CWNS students in Jammu and Kashmir based on their specific requirements,” He said
Regarding financial support, Magotra explained that each CWSN student receives Rs 1,500 as Escort Allowance, while transportation allowances amount to Rs 2,000 for elementary level students and Rs 2,500 for secondary level students.
Moreover, Reader allowance of Rs 2,000 is granted to elementary level CWSN students and Rs 2,500 to secondary level students. Additionally, a stipend of Rs 2,000 is provided to CWSN girls, directly transferred to their bank accounts through DBT Mode.
Furthermore, Samagra Shiksha J & K organizes special exposure visits and sports events for CWSN students in every district of Jammu and Kashmir. The department allocates funds to the Chief Education Officer to facilitate these activities for the students.
The Samagra Shiksha provides Braille stationery for visually impaired students and commemorates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December each year, organizing special events and competitions.
