Srinagar, Mar 04: RJ Umar Nisar from the Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district was honoured with UNICEF’s #Radio4Child Award for 2024. The prestigious accolade was presented by Ayushman Khurrana, UNICEF Celebrity supporter, and national brand ambassador, in a star-studded event attended by UN and UNICEF representatives, along with key figures from the radio and media industry.
Umar embarked on his radio journey at the tender age of 12 and has since become a vocal advocate for Child Rights, Climate Change, Immunization, Mental Health, and Youth Development.
This marks Umar’s second consecutive year receiving the prestigious UNICEF award and underscores his sustained dedication to impactful broadcasting. His radio podcast “Mashq Talks” has become a cornerstone in addressing critical issues in the Kashmir region, providing a platform for nuanced discussion and awareness campaigns.
The ceremony, attended by representatives from the UN and UNICEF, showcased the collaboration effort in acknowledging and celebrating individuals who use their platform to drive positive change. Ayushman Khurrana, in his role as the presenter, commended Umar for his unwavering commitment to social causes and the transformative influence he has had through his radio broadcasts.
Umar, visibly elated and grateful for the recognition, expressed joy by dedicating the award to his mother. He emphasized the profound impact of her unconditional support throughout his life, adding a deeply personal touch to the accolade. “I am very happy and proud of the accomplishments which UNICEF acknowledged. I firstly dedicate this award to my mother for all the unconditional support throughout my life,” he said.
While actively pursuing his radio career, Umar is simultaneously involved in several Bollywood projects, making noteworthy contributions to the music scene in Kashmir through his music company Mashq Records. This showcases his versatility and dedication across various aspects of the entertainment industry.
Adding another layer to his list of accolades, Umar Nisar recently received honours from the acclaimed three-time Grammy Awardee Rickey Keh for his excellence in radio broadcasting. This additional recognition further solidifies Umar’s standing as a distinguished figure in the field, underscoring his outstanding contribution to the world of radio and his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact through the airwaves.
