Srinagar, Oct 18: Reiterating the commitment of the police towards eradicating the menace of terrorism from J&K UT, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh Wednesday said that over 40 police stations in Jammu and Kashmir are undergoing a significant modernization process, including the provision of state-of-the-art equipment and weaponry, with the aim to wipe out the terrorists operating in the region.
Addressing the passing out and attestation parade in the Sheeri area of Baramulla, he said this initiative, known as Operation Capacity Building, has already enhanced the capabilities of 21 police stations, equipping them with the latest technology and resources to combat terrorism.
DGP Singh emphasized the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to establish lasting peace in the Union Territory.
He paid heartfelt tribute to the 1601 police personnel who have sacrificed their lives over the past three decades.
DGP Singh also highlighted that 14,000 new policemen were trained this year, including 1800 who received specialized commando training and have been deployed in various parts of the Union Territory.
Additionally, 2500 new officers completed Cyber Crime Training, contributing to the betterment of society.
DGP acknowledged that despite the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir, challenges do persist. Nonetheless, the Jammu and Kashmir Police remain steadfast in their dedication to confront these challenges resolutely and ensure that lasting peace becomes a permanent feature in the region, he said.
DGP Singh noted that a record number of 27 officers from the Kashmir Police Service (KPS) were recently inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS). This marks a significant milestone in the history of the KPS, he added.
The Police Chief also mentioned substantial financial support for police families and Special Police Officers (SPOs), with Rs. 62 crore allocated this year.
“Additionally, promotions within the police department have been addressed, with 4000 individuals receiving promotions. This comprehensive approach underscores the commitment to enhancing the welfare and capabilities of the police force in the region,” he said.
DGP Singh congratulated new graduates and announced the establishment of two women battalions. He emphasized plans to further fortify the border grid in the coming months, strengthening the region’s security.
