One Week One Lab: CSIR IIIM organizes JIGYASA prog in Sgr

Srinagar, June 05: CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu at its branch laboratory in Srinagar on Monday organized the Jigyasa programme as part of the weeklong event of ‘One Week One Lab’ under the patronage of Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director CSIR IIIM Jammu and supervision of Er Ab Rahim, Head IIIM (Br) Srinagar. 
The event, aimed to showcase the scientific accomplishments and technologies of 37 CSIR organizations that work in diverse fields of Science, Technology and Innovation, was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr Geetha Vani Rayasam, Head CSIR HRDG & Coordinator CSIR Jigyasa Programme in the presence of the scientists and technologists of the institute. 
Around 130 students and accompanying faculties from various schools of Srinagar and adjoining areas participated in a number of scientific activities carried out here in a daylong programme which was organized to also commemorate World Environment Day with its theme “beat plastic pollution: ecosystem restoration”. 
Various activities were undertaken which included a hackathon, science model competition, DIY activities, painting competition and a visit to various science labs of the institute. In the intriguing scientific sessions, the students were introduced to different laboratory techniques like DNA isolation, electrophoresis, electrolysis of water, centrifugation, microscopy, cell culture, saponification of fats, pH testing of solutions, TLC and column chromatography.  
In the hackathon, the students from multiple schools participated in an extempore scientific speech competition on the theme “beat plastic pollution: ecosystem restoration”. A painting completion was also organized on the day. In her address at the event, Dr Geetha emphasized upon inculcating scientific temper among the young and inquisitive students for betterment of the society and mankind. She encouraged the participating students to take advantage of the CSIR virtual labs. 
In her welcome address, Dr Asha Chaubey, Nodal Scientist Jigyasa & Programme Coordinator informed in detail about the OWOL program and complimented the students for their participation in the program. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, Programme Organizer. Dr Bhat expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, DG CSIR, Director CSIR IIIM, Head CSIR IIIM (Br) Srinagar and the participating students. The efforts of the organizing committee were also acknowledged. The event was concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners and runner-ups in different activities.
