Baramulla, March 08: In a significant move towards curbing domestic violence against women, the One-Stop Centre in north Kashmir’s Baramulla has resolved around 90 percent of cases through counseling and legal advice.
The Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, announced this on the occasion of International Women’s Day in north Kashmir’s Sopore.
Dr. Sehrish said that District Baramulla was the first district in the union territory to establish a One-Stop Centre in record time in October last year.
“Since then, approximately 200 cases of domestic violence and other family disputes have been registered, out of which 90 percent have been resolved with counseling and legal advice,” she added.
The Baramulla administration’s successful handling of these cases has saved families from further harm.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla said that victims of domestic violence should speak out against their abusers and seek help whenever needed.
“The One-Stop Centre provides confidential counseling to those who need it,” she further added
Dr. Sehrish emphasized that collective efforts are necessary for a successful society, and the best human beings are those who can feel the pain of others and contribute to a thriving community.
The One-Stop Centre in Baramulla was launched by the social welfare department to address cases of domestic violence and other family disputes.
The initiative aims to prevent conflicts within families and curb violence against women.
An official of the social welfare department said that it is a step forward in the fight against gender-based violence and sends a message to perpetrators that their actions will not be tolerated.
