Dignity of labour means having respect for all types of jobs (physical or mental) and professions without having any discrimination or prejudice on any basis. Unfortunately, the concept of dignity of labour is not practically implemented by people in their lives. Most of the times, many people are not educated about the importance of different jobs and professions that people do in our society. It is true that after a lot of struggles and sacrifices, people become doctors, engineers and lawyers and whatever good they do for the society is to be acknowledged but at the same time people of other professions such as sweepers, cobblers, vegetable vendors, bakers etc should also be treated with dignity and equal respect. For e.g. a sweeper plays an important role in the society for its wellness. Being a sweeper or a cleaner, he keeps the society clean. Also, the waste management and sanitation control is managed by people associated with it. Still many people look down upon them and sometimes disrespect them. We must understand that every person plays an important role in the society he lives in. We should stop judging people on the basis of their caste, status and the jobs they perform in the given society. Every work deserves its worthy appreciation and calls for respect and dignity and cannot be termed as inferior just because of a form of work being a different skill or a physical form of work. The need of the hour is to educate everyone on this issue and also taking care of the sensitivity of others. People should be made aware about the importance of dignity of labour so that they can respect every person irrespective of their professions and jobs. This will help people understand, accept, acknowledge and welcome all the different communities prevalent in our society. We must understand that every profession commands respect and all job types are equally respectable and no occupation is superior to another.
