JAMMU, Apr 25: In the aftermath of the gruesome terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, the government has decided to suspend all trekking activities across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to official sources, the decision was prompted by ongoing intense combing and search operations (CASO) in the upper reaches and dense forest areas, particularly in the Jammu region. Security forces are currently conducting operations in several districts, including Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri, and Poonch, where terrorists are believed to be hiding.
“The terrorists are using these remote and forested regions as hideouts, and active search operations are underway. As a precautionary measure, all trekking activities have been halted until further notice,” sources said.
In a concrete move to implement the order, Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, called on senior officials of the Tourism Department and directed them to immediately stop all trekking activities in the district, sources told Rising Kashmir.
Authorities have urged citizens and tourists to cooperate with the security arrangements and avoid venturing into forested or remote areas during this period of heightened alert.
