Srinagar, Mar 24: The Jammu & Kashmir government on Monday informed the Assembly that there is no shortage of green space in Bagwanpora. The statement came in response to a question raised by National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq.
Sadiq had raised concerns regarding the lack of green spaces for local residents, particularly children and senior citizens, in Bagwanpora. He also inquired about the completion status of the developmental works at Cherry Park, a public park in Bagwanpora.
In response, CM Omar Abdullah said, “The local residents, including children and senior citizens, are not deprived of green space. The Tourism Department owns a park of 168 Kanals 14 Marlas at Bagwanpora (Cherry Park), which has free access for the residents of the adjoining areas.”
He also mentioned that the J&K Sports Council has been authorized to undertake the development of a playground adjacent to Cherry Park. The work includes components such as chain-link fencing, turfing, leveling, and landscaping at Ander Nowbagh, Baghwanpora. “The earth filling for this project has already been completed, with the remaining works scheduled for the next financial year,” he said.
Regarding the status of developmental works at Cherry Park, CM Abdullah further stated, “The Tourism Department has already completed the development of various amenities, including an open-air theatre, a Devri stone pathway, stairs, gazebos, and public conveniences. However, some of these facilities require repairs and renovations, which will be undertaken in the next financial year.”
