Srinagar, Apr 29: A health awareness program, organized by two Kashmir-based NGOs – Saaya and Uri Foundation – was held in Government High School (GHS) Balkote, Uri near the Line of Control (LoC).
The aim of the program, according to a statement by the organizers, was to educate children in this remote area about health and hygiene.
The program with the theme ‘Healthy lifestyle’ began with a speech by Zahid Fayaz, a health educator at SDH Uri, who impressed upon the better way to wash hands and how to stay clean.
Advocate Toseal Ahmad said there was a dire need to maintain good hygiene. He further informed the students that one can also take legal help in this regard. Haseeb, a student of the school delivered a speech on the healthy lifestyle. Abrar Ahmad, a faculty of the school appealed to the students to follow all the safety measures so as to stay safe from various germs and bacteria that can prove deadly sometime.
Before concluding, the headmaster of the school, Javaid Banday thanked the NGOs for holding such an awareness program in a remote border area. “Students were taught about various important issues like avoiding junk food, need to do exercises and staying away from drugs,” he said.
Banday said the school would appreciate and welcome if more such awareness programs are conducted there. Abrar Bhat and Bashir Ahmad Bhat, members of Saaya, Uri Foundation were present on the occasion.
