Ganderbal, Aug 30: After taking over as the CEO of Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Gh Mohd Bhat has expressed his commitment to transforming Sonamarg into an even more beautiful and popular tourist destination.
In an interview with Rising Kashmir Bhat outlined his vision for the area, which stretches from Gagangeer to Baltal and includes approximately 7,674 Kanals of land recently transferred to the SDA.
Bhat revealed that one of the immediate challenges is the demarcation of this vast area. “We have not yet fully demarcated all the lands that fall under the Sonamarg Development Authority. This matter has been brought to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal, and we anticipate that a committee have also been constituted to address this issue promptly,” he said.
Sonamarg, already renowned as a prime tourist destination, is expected to attract even more visitors. He added that the Srinagar-Leh highway, which passes through Sonamarg, has long been a significant source of business for local residents. “We will continue to make concerted efforts to increase the flow of tourists to this pristine region.
The completion of the Z-Morh Tunnel, which now keeps Sonamarg accessible year-round, is expected to be a game-changer for the local economy. Bhat stated, “The tunnel will not only bolster the economy in the Sonamarg region but also enhance the area’s appeal as a winter tourism destination.”
As winter approaches, Bhat assured that preparations are already underway to ensure Sonamarg is ready to welcome tourists during the colder months. Additionally, he highlighted the ongoing cleanliness drives being conducted by the SDA, aimed at making Sonamarg a garbage-free zone.
