Jammu, Aug 29: National Conference (NC) Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta on Thursday said the party is committed to the welfare of the economically weaker sections (EWSs) and will ensure the provision of basic necessities such as ‘Roti, Kapda aur Makaan’ for them.
Speaking at the joining programme held at Sher e Kashmir Bhawan here, Gupta said, “National Conference, through its vision and manifesto, is dedicated to the overall development and upliftment of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, especially the underprivileged.”
He criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its “utter frustration” in the face of the “strong” alliance between the National Conference and Congress in the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
“The BJP’s declining popularity was evident during the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the INDIA alliance, of which NC and Congress are key constituents, gave a major setback to the saffron party. The same outcome would be witnessed in the forthcoming assembly elections, with the INDIA alliance emerging victorious,” he said, according to a party statement issued here.
The NC leader claimed that the INDIA alliance is poised to secure over 30 seats in the Jammu region alone in the ensuing polls. Under the historic ‘Land to Tiller’ initiative, the National Conference has always prioritized the welfare of farmers, ensuring that land was distributed to the tillers, he said, adding, “Our commitment to agrarian reforms will continue to guide our policies.”
The Provincial President said the National Conference in its poll manifesto has committed to implementing the National Food Security Act, ensuring food security for all citizens.
The party’s manifesto includes significant promises such as providing Rs 5,000 per month to female heads of households to EWS, one lakh jobs to J&K youths, 12 LPG cylinders per family per year to EWS and provision of free 200 power units for every household, he said.
Welcoming the newly joined members into the party, Rattan Lal said their decision to join the National Conference reflects the growing trust people have in the party’s vision.
Among those who joined the party included Kanta Devi, Usha Mahajan, Ajeet Kour, Sunita Devi, Anju and others, the statement said.
Gupta asked the newly joined members to remain active in their respective areas and ensure the victory of NC in the upcoming assembly polls.
Bimla Luthra, former MLA and State Vice President of NC Women’s Wing, in her address, said the National Conference has always stood for inclusivity and empowerment, particularly for women.
“Women play a vital role in shaping the future of our society, and their empowerment remains one of our top priorities. Our party is committed to ensuring equal opportunities, social justice, and economic independence for women across Jammu & Kashmir,” she said.
