Srinagar, Feb 24: A day after People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti accused the J&K Assembly Speaker of imposing martial law, the National Conference (NC) on Monday criticised her for disregarding legislative norms and advised her to study the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business before making accusations.
NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, citing Rule 368, reminded Mehbooba that members are prohibited from publicising any notice regarding the business of the House before it is admitted by the Speaker and circulated to members.
“Before making uncouth remarks on the J&K Assembly Speaker, I would advise @MehboobaMufti to go through the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the J&K Assembly before trying to score brownie points over a private member’s bill. This is a question of sanctity and decorum of the House,” Dar posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The NC’s response follows Mehbooba Mufti’s strong criticism of the Speaker, in which she alleged that legislative proceedings were being stifled. However, NC leaders maintained that adhering to procedural rules is essential for upholding the dignity of the Assembly and avoiding unnecessary political confrontations.
