Srinagar, Jun 10: National Conference (NC) president, Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice president & Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to party stalwarts Mirza Muhammad Afzal Beg and Khawaja Ghulam Mohi Ud Din Shah on thier 39th and 17th death anniversaries, respectively.
In his tribute to Mirza Afzal Beg, Dr Abdullah highlighted his pivotal role in the “struggle for people’s rights and progressive reforms” in Jammu and Kashmir. “A visionary politician and an ardent ally of Sher-e-Kashmir, Beg Sahib’s contribution to land reforms and the abolition of big landed estates remains a defining chapter in the history of NC,” he said, praying for his soul’s eternal peace.
Paying homage to Khawaja Ghulam Mohi Ud Din Shah, the NC chief praised his loyalty to the party and his relentless work for the betterment of J&K’s people. “A man of great intellect and commitment, Shah Sahib’s pioneering efforts in pro-peasantry and pro-poor legislation continue to inspire generations,” he added.
Omar Abdullah highlighted the legacy of service and sacrifice rendered by both leaders, saying: “Their contributions are an exemplary illustration of leadership and vision. The foundation of our party is built on their dedication to the people of J&K.”
Other senior leaders, including NC’s General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Advisor to CM, Nasir Aslam Wani Sogami, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Members of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, and many others, also paid their respects, recalling the invaluable legacy of these leaders in shaping the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
