Srinagar, Mar 04: National Conference (NC) MLA Riyaz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take immediate steps to bring back two Kashmiri youths reportedly detained in Myanmar.
During the debate on the Lieutenant Governor’s address in the Assembly, Khan raised a point of order, highlighting the “urgent matter” of their detention by the Myanmar Coast Guard.
The MLA informed the House that he had received multiple calls regarding the issue and sought the government’s intervention.
He said that the detained persons, Adnan Khan and Naveed Khan from Gopalpura, Shangus were sent to Thailand by a private recruitment agency. However, they were later moved to another location and subsequently detained by Myanmar’s coast guard along with other Indian nationals during a protest near the Myanmar border, he said.
Khan said he had already informed the government about the matter and urged the chief minister to take action to ensure their safe return.
