Srinagar, Jan 27: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Budgam constituency in-charge, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi on Monday accused the National Conference (NC) of consistently misleading the people of Budgam.
In a statement issued here in response to the recent visit of the Deputy Chief Minister, Aga Muntazir accused the NC of neglecting the needs of the constituency despite securing electoral victories from Budgam in both the Assembly and Parliament since 1999. “Budgam, which has historically supported leaders like Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, has been left to struggle for basic necessities and remains deprived of critical infrastructure,” he said.
Muntazir lamented the state of healthcare in the district, saying, “Budgam is still waiting for advanced healthcare facilities. The District Hospital is yet to be equipped with essential equipment such as ultrasound machines.”
Criticising the Deputy Chief Minister’s announcement on road widening in the district, the PDP leader said, “We have been hearing about this project since 2002. Numerous Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and surveys have been conducted, but no tangible progress has been made.”
He urged the government to prioritise a comprehensive rehabilitation and compensation plan for those affected by the road widening project instead of engaging in superficial promises to mislead the public. “The people of Budgam deserve action, not optics,” he added.
Muntazir called for immediate measures to address the genuine concerns of the residents and warned against further neglect of the region’s pressing issues.
