Jammu, Mar 06: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Thursday accused the National Conference (NC) of having Pakistan in its DNA. He dismissed the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) request for support on a liquor ban bill, saying his party had its own priorities.
Addressing media persons here, Sharma asserted that matters related to external affairs should be left to the Ministry of External Affairs, and no ad hoc decisions should be taken at the local level. “Tomorrow, we will call a Panchayat’s Panches, but we will not call any ‘Serpents’ Panches,’” he said, adding that representatives should focus on developmental promises made to the people.
The BJP leader targeted senior NC leader Ali Mohammad Sagar, expressing disappointment over his statements. “It is very unfortunate that senior leaders like Ali Mohammad Sagar speak in this manner. Pakistan is buried in the DNA of the National Conference,” he alleged, adding that voters had elected representatives for development, not for political rhetoric.
Referring to the 2002 elections, Sharma questioned the role of the Ikhwan cadre and accused NC leaders of past associations.
He also took a dig at PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who recently wrote a letter seeking support for banning liquor. “PDP has its own agenda, and we are not going to be involved in it. When we get a bill, we will support our own, but why should we support PDP’s bill?” he said.
“PDP has only three MLAs. The party must focus on its own affairs,” he said, adding, “Madam Mehbooba is free to write letters. We are busy with bills and questions.”
