Jammu, Aug 16: J&K National Conference provincial president Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta on Wednesday expressed hope for the swift restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as well as assembly elections to “restore democracy” in the region. He called upon the government at the Centre to take immediate action in this regard.
“The J&K National Conference is determined to work towards the principles of Jamhuriyat (democracy), Secularism and Socialism. These values form the guiding principles of the party’s vision for a more inclusive and equitable society,” he said, adding that the party is committed to protecting the land and employment rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per a party statement issued here, the NC celebrated the country’s 77th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and unity at the Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu. On the occasion, Rattan Lal Gupta hoisted the national flag in the presence of party functionaries.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta threw light on the supreme sacrifices made by the freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Chander Shekhar Azad, Subash Chander Bose and many more for getting freedom from the clutches of the British Kingdom and for the betterment of the people and the country. “It is our collective responsibility to fulfill their dream of a united Indian nation where all sections of society, regardless of caste, color, or creed, coexist harmoniously,” he said, adding, “We must also remember great leaders like ‘father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sher-e- Kashmir Sheikh Mohd Abdullah who contributed to the development of the country.”
Gupta said NC remains committed to realizing the dreams of these brave freedom fighters and stressed the urgent need to strengthen communal harmony and brotherhood, saying these virtues form the bedrock of a prosperous and unified nation. The party is dedicated to bringing peace and prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
“As we celebrate our nation’s independence, the J&K National Conference stands firm in its commitment to fight for the aspirations and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The party pledges to continue working towards a more prosperous, united, and harmonious India,” he added.
