Baramulla, Dec 19: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, affirmed that the ambitious National Highway project from Srinagar to Uri is well underway, emphasizing its significant impact on tourism, healthcare, education, and overall regional development.
Dr. Asgar assured that the project, costing a staggering 850 crores, is on track to be completed ahead of schedule, marking a transformative milestone for the area.
She expressed confidence that the Government of India’s ambitious initiative would be completed ahead of schedule, bringing substantial benefits to tourism, healthcare, education, and various other sectors.
The project is anticipated to become a landmark achievement once finished.
Highlighting the historical context, the DC mentioned that the lack of an expressway in Baramulla had been a longstanding demand, particularly from the local residents of Baramulla and Kupwara.
She highlighted the persistent demand from locals, especially in Baramulla and Kupwara, for improved connectivity.
“The execution has been in full swing over the past few months, with efficient progress in various aspects such as tendering and tree-cutting across the four different packages.”
“We are hopeful that the project will be completed before the stipulated timeline,” she added.
Dr. Asgar emphasized the positive impact the completed highway would have on travel times, estimating that it would take people no more than 40-45 minutes, ensuring hassle-free travel with reduced traffic accidents.
“The expressway is poised to boost tourism, enhance healthcare facilities, contribute to the education sector, and stimulate the local economy,” she said.
DC Baramulla said that the introduction of bypasses will also aid in traffic management in the district.
