Srinagar, Oct 23: In the ongoing ‘NASHA MUKT ABHIYAN’ campaign, authorities at district administration Srinagar said that they are going to intensify the awareness campaigns so as to spread awareness about substance abuse.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Syed Haneef Balkhi told Rising Kashmir that they will intensify their campaign under ‘NASHA MUKT ABHIYAN’ so that society gets rid of this menace and its total eradication from society.
“Under NashaMukt Abhiyan, a series of activities were held by district administration Srinagar in which a number of schools performed various programmes which included stage plays, skits, rallies, and poster displays to highlight the need of taking preventive measures to eradicate the menace of drug addiction in the district”, ADC Srinagar said.
Pertinent to mention that Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad had earlier stressed upon the prevention and curability aspects of drug de-addiction so that youth would remain far away from the consumption of narcotic substances and simultaneously are guided and rehabilitated under different self-employment schemes.
DC Srinagar had emphasized on sharing of inputs within all enforcement units so that timely action is taken against the drug peddlers and had also directed the concerned officers to ensure proper vigil in and around the schools/colleges to keep a check on the supply and use of drugs across the District.
Dr. Balkhi further said that the objective of the campaign is to increase community participation and sensitization of the people who become vulnerable to drug abuse.
“District Administration Srinagar along with the Srinagar Police have been acting very hard and many detentions under relevant laws have also taken place and in coming days the drive will be intensified”, he added.
Notably, to combat the drug menace among youth and make India free of drugs, the government of India under the Ministry of Social justice and empowerment launched the NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan on 15 August 2020.
The initiative aims to increase public awareness of drug abuse with a focus on higher education institutions, university campuses, and schools. It also reaches out to the community and identifies the dependent population, focuses on drug addicts’ access to counseling services and treatment facilities, and develops service providers’ capacity.
With the primary goal of raising public awareness of drug abuse and its effects on society, the NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan is also being held in various districts of Kashmir. Both the government and members of civil society have worked together to support the initiative to get rid of this blight from society.
