Srinagar, Sept 16: Security has been ramped up across Srinagar and South Kashmir in preparation for the first phase of the assembly elections on Wednesday and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on September 19.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, said that all security arrangements are in place, adhering to guidelines set by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He assured that both the police administration and security forces are committed to ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections and the Prime Minister’s rally.
IGP Birdi emphasized that a comprehensive multi-tier security system has been established with a special focus on polling booths. “Security forces are maintaining a strong presence and have effectively secured key areas. We are highly vigilant and active,” he stated.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Vidhi Kumar Birdi said that all the security arrangements are in place. Deployments have been made as per guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), he said.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, IGP Birdi said that police administration is committed for smooth conduct of Assembly elections in Kashmir province. Similarly, security will be arranged for the PM rally’s security according to protocols.
IGP Birdi said all district SP’s have been given strict directions to make the ongoing festival of democracy a successful event.
The IGP Birdi further said that a comprehensive multi-tier security system has been put in place, with a special focus on polling booths. Both paramilitary and armed forces have created an impenetrable security blanket across the region, he said.
“Security forces are maintaining a strong presence and have effectively secured key areas. We are “highly vigilant and active,” he said.
Additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at vital spots, checkpoints, and frisking points have been established to address security concerns.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel will be stationed in the city to monitor any suspicious activities. J&K Police Commandos, along with CRPF personnel, have been positioned around the SK Stadium to pre-empt any untoward incidents.
“Nakas (checkpoints) and checking points will continue to operate along the major highways in the Valley as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident,” a police official said.
