Ganderbal, Oct 05: The Mountain Research Centre for Sheep and Goat (MRCSG) at SKUAST-Kashmir hosted a one-day awareness cum training program titled “Commercial Sheep Farming as a Business Enterprise” under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
The event, held at the Faculty Outreach Centre of FVSc & AH, commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Muzamil Abdullah, Assistant Professor at MRCSG and Program Coordinator. Professor M. T. Banday, Dean of FVSc & AH, Shuhama, graced the inaugural function as the chief guest and commended the organizers for their efforts. He encouraged the educated youth of the valley to channel their expertise into the sheep husbandry business.
The training program attracted veterinarians and progressive sheep breeders from various regions across Kashmir valley. Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Reshi, Assistant Professor in Animal Nutrition and Founder of KashVet Innovations Private Limited, delivered a comprehensive lecture on feeding management and stressed the significance of region-specific mineral supplements, particularly “KashMin-S,” for sheep farming.
Participants were also treated to valuable insights from progressive sheep breeders who shared their success stories in the sector. Officers from JK EDI (Ganderbal) shed light on the burgeoning business opportunities within the sheep farming industry, further motivating attendees to explore this lucrative field.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. A. Q. Mir, Assistant Professor at MRCSG, Shuhama Ganderbal, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their dedication to advancing the sheep and goat farming sector in the region. This training program is expected to empower local breeders and contribute to the growth of the sheep industry in Kashmir.
