Srinagar, Oct 12: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Member of Parliament for Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, said on Saturday that the party will continue its struggle against those who have marginalised Kashmiris and stripped them of their rights.
In an interview with ANN, Mehdi said the National Conference is committed to advocating for the restoration of Article 370 and the rights that have been taken from the people. “We will fight with dignity, as the people have elected representatives to voice their concerns when they cannot protest individually,” said the 47-year-old MP, who has been active in politics from an early age.
“We aim to maintain a constructive relationship with the central government, but we will not accept that friendship at the expense of our honour and dignity. We did not receive a mandate from the people for that,” Mehdi, who was the key campaigner for the National Conference during the assembly polls, said.
The MP added, “Our mandate is to fight for our rights, regardless of whether the ruling party is the BJP or Congress. We must first demand the restoration of what has been taken from us. If one party refuses, we can seek support from another that comes to power. We must stand united against those who have abused us and stripped away our rights.”
