Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, a seasoned National Conference leader and seven-time elected MLA from Charar-i-Sharief, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to fulfilling all promises outlined in its manifesto, emphasising that the elected government will bring much-needed relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In an interview with Rising Kashmir, Rather expressed satisfaction with the support from voters across Budgam district’s five assembly constituencies, highlighting that residents have high expectations from the National Conference.
“The manifesto released during the election will be implemented effectively. Our government is dedicated to fulfilling all promises detailed in it,” Rather said, adding that the trust shown by his constituents underscores his duty to address their concerns.
Rather, who has represented Charar-i-Sharief since his first election in 1977, stated, “The provisions of Article 370 and Article 35A were not obstacles to development; instead, they safeguarded the employment and land rights of residents. The narrative that Article 370 hindered J&K’s progress is misleading. Post-abrogation, the people have faced increased challenges.”
Advocate Rather emphasised the potential of tourism to reduce unemployment in the region, citing that the National Conference’s manifesto includes plans to develop all tourist destinations in J&K.
“The tourism industry holds significant promise for income generation, especially for the youth,” he noted, adding that development initiatives would extend across Budgam’s five constituencies to ensure comprehensive regional growth.
Reflecting on the support received during the elections, he stated, “Our party is poised to secure all five seats in Budgam, and we will work collectively to address the issues faced by our constituents.”
On the restoration of statehood, Rather highlighted assurances from the Prime Minister and the Supreme Court that statehood will be reinstated. He expressed hope that with statehood restored, the Chief Minister would be able to utilize all available powers for the welfare of the people. “Our manifesto addresses critical issues, including the protection of land and employment rights,” he said. “We remain committed to reclaiming the rights that were taken from us on August 5, 2019.”
Advocate Rather also underscored the importance of an elected government in listening to and addressing the needs of the people. “The people of J&K desire a government that hears their voices. The National Conference has always prioritized their welfare, which is why they have placed their trust in us,” he remarked.
Commenting on rising living costs, Rather acknowledged the financial struggles many families in Jammu and Kashmir have faced in recent years. He assured that the National Conference is committed to alleviating these burdens, which have intensified over the past six years.
Later, Rather thanked the voters for their support, reiterating that the National Conference will strive to fulfill their expectations. “It is our duty to address all issues and ensure essential services are provided to our constituents,” he said.
