Anantnag, Apr 26: National Conference (NC) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pahalgam, Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kaloo), on Saturday said he would donate his one-month basic salary to the family of Adil Hussain Shah, the slain pony walla who sacrificed his life while saving tourists during the recent terror attack.
Speaking to reporters at Hapatnar, Anantnag, Wani said, “Out of my salary, my basic salary as MLA, I will donate it to Adil’s family. As a local MLA, it is my duty to support them, not just today but for as long as I can. Our government will also continue to help them. I will hand over my one-month basic salary to Shaheed Adil Hussain Shah’s father, wife, and mother.”
He added, “Syed Adil Shah gave his life to protect tourists. We are proud of him. On the directions of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, a delegation including Salman Ali Sagar, Ahsan Pardesi, Imran Nabi Dar, Zamir Abdullah, Zahir Abdullah, and a representative from the Maharashtra Tour and Travel Association, Abhijeet, visited the family.”
The NC legislator said Adil’s sacrifice uplifted the spirit of Jammu and Kashmir. “His martyrdom will not be forgotten. The more we praise him, the less it feels,” he said.
The MLA said they had earlier spoken to Adil’s father during Omar Abdullah’s visit to the funeral and now again met the family. “We will provide all possible support to them. We also appreciate the bravery of Sajid and Rayees, who helped save many tourists during the attack.”
On widespread sympathy in Kashmir for Pahalgam victims, Altaf said, “For the first time, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians came together on one platform to protest against violence. It shows that Kashmiris are peaceful and stand united against terrorism. I congratulate the people of Jammu and Kashmir for this unity,” he said.
MLA Wani added, “We are Indians and we remain an integral part of India. I appeal to everyone across the country: embrace the people of Jammu and Kashmir and stand with them.”
Commenting on the government’s efforts for the safety of J&K residents working outside the UT, he said, “Our government has deputed ministers to different states, including Dehradun, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh, to ensure the safety of J&K residents. Deputy CM, Sakina Ji, Javed Dar Sahib, Satish Ji, and Javed Rana Sahib are overseeing the efforts.”
