Sonamarg, Feb 09: In the aftermath of a devastating fire incident in Sonamarg that destroyed over 40 shops and caused property damage worth crores, MLA Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali, has blamed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) for negligence.
During his visit to the affected area, MLA Kangan told reporters that he had initiated efforts in December last year to set up a fire station in Sonamarg. He mentioned that officials from the Fire and Emergency Department had visited the area, completed all formalities, and were ready to establish the station. However, due to the lack of accommodation for fire tenders, the station could not be made operational. He accused the CEO of failing to provide the necessary space despite multiple meetings and follow-ups.
“The traders had demanded a fire station, and I immediately took up the matter with the concerned authorities. The only hurdle was the accommodation, which was not arranged by the CEO despite my repeated requests,” said Mian Mehar Ali.
The MLA further alleged that the CEO was not working at the ground level and only made empty promises. He termed him an “ineligible officer” and assured the affected traders that the fire service station would be made functional within a couple of weeks. He also promised every possible support to those who suffered losses in the fire.
