Jammu, Jan 16: Rajiv Jasrotia, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Jasrota, on Thursday said the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched numerous initiatives for the welfare of people, especially the elderly. He urged the public to take advantage of these schemes.
Laying the foundation stone for a Water Supply Scheme at Panchayat Borthain South, part of the Central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission, the MLA said the BJP is committed to overall development in every region of the country.
The project, as per a statement issued by the MLA, is set to cost Rs 10 crore and will feature a 500,000-gallon Rapid Sand filtration plant and reservoirs, aiming to benefit approximately 15,000 residents in the area. This initiative addresses the longstanding water shortage issue and is a key step towards ensuring clean drinking water access for every household, as envisioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
At the ceremony, MLA Jasrotia was joined by various officials and local leaders, including PHE XEN, AEE, and several Sarpanches. In his address, Jasrotia said the project has been a long-standing demand of the community and assured that it would be completed within the designated timeline. He praised the Union government’s commitment to fulfilling local aspirations through the timely execution of projects aimed at improving quality of life.
The Jal Jeevan Mission seeks to provide a tap water supply to every rural household, ensuring drinking water security and enhancing public health. Jasrotia highlighted the importance of ensuring quality and regularity in water supply and reiterated the mission’s objective of universal coverage, ensuring every family receives a tap water connection.
During the event, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh addressed the attendees virtually, with locals expressing their gratitude for the scheme, noting the severe hardships they faced without access to clean drinking water. Residents particularly mentioned how the new supply would significantly relieve their burdens, especially for women.
Jasrotia also called for the conservation of forest cover to preserve water sources, linking it to the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission in rural areas. He encouraged awareness of developmental schemes and stated that more projects are in the pipeline for the community.
The MLA called on the opposition to rise above petty politics and avoid instigating youth for their own interests. He appealed for people’s support to strengthen initiatives for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
