Srinagar, Oct 10: Newly elected MLA from Bijbehara Constituency, Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri of the National Conference (NC) has dismissed allegations made by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti as baseless and fabricated, saying her “accusations” are due to an inability to accept her electoral defeat in her hometown.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Shah said he has respect for both Iltija and her mother – PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, but added that she should honour the people’s mandate instead of publicly accusing others. “Both the police and the district administration ensured peaceful and safe elections in Bijbehara. We must avoid using unparliamentary language,” he said.
Veeri said he too has faced defeats in the past. “I, too, have faced losses multiple times but accepted them with grace. I always urged people to remain calm, as it was the will of God, and I was prepared for any outcome,” he said.
The NC leader recounted an incident on Wednesday when he visited the Khiram village Dargah under police protection. “My convoy was attacked with stones, and some individuals even poured hot water on my car. Both the police and the administration witnessed the incident. Such behaviour is unacceptable in a democratic process,” he alleged.
Veeri also asserted that he secured 55% of the vote share in the constituency and urged Iltija Mufti to accept the election results honestly.
