A fire and emergency department official in Srinagar was injured while battling a massive blaze that broke out at the godown of the New Diamond Hardware store in the Mominabad area of the city on Sunday.
The fire started in a three-storey building and quickly engulfed the entire structure. As soon as the flames erupted, fire and emergency employees rushed to the scene, joined by passersby who also tried to help extinguish the fire.
According to fire and emergency official, “At 2:47 PM, the fire and emergency officials received a distress call and promptly arrived at the spot to combat the flames.” Unfortunately, during the operation, a fire and emergency official identified as Noor Alam sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
F & E department is currently investigating the cause of the fire and have confirmed that no civilians were injured in the incident. “The extent of damage to the warehouse is being assessed by officials.”
Local residents of Mominabad expressed their sorrow over the incident, stating that goods worth millions of rupees were gutted in the blaze.
This unfortunate incident comes shortly after another fire in the Lalchowk area of the city, where a firefighter and a civilian were injured.
The city of Srinagar has been witnessing a surge in fire incidents in recent times, raising concerns among residents and authorities.
It is important for businesses and individuals to follow proper safety protocols, have adequate fire-fighting equipment on their premises, and undergo regular safety inspections, the official said.
