Kulgam, Sep 09: Massive fire engulfed a band sawmill in Chawlgam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday early morning, resulting in significant damage to the property and machinery.
According to officials, the mill, owned by Abdul Rashid Sheikh and Assadullah Sheikh, suffered substantial losses, including timber, machinery, and firewood.
He said the blaze which erupted at approximately 7:23 am caused damage to the band sawmill and preliminary investigations have been launched by the police to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The Fire & Emergency Services officials estimate the total value of the property involved in the conflagration to be around 80 lakh rupees.
“Unfortunately, the property worth approximately Rs 6 lakh has been irreversibly damaged,” a fire services official said.
Authorities have urged the residents to exercise caution and adhere to safety protocols, especially in industries susceptible to such incidents.
