Srinagar, March 06: Despite the construction of healthcare buildings in Khanpeth and Mamoosa villages under the Pattan Constituency, medical services are yet to commence, officials said on Thursday.
In a written reply, Health Minister Sakina Itoo said that hospital buildings were initiated in both villages to improve healthcare access. However, these facilities remain non-functional, compelling residents to rely on rented accommodations for medical services.
The hospital building for NTPHC Khanpeth was initiated in 2019-20 under the Capex budget, with an expenditure of approximately ₹52 lakh. The construction, however, has only reached the lintel level and remains stalled due to non-clearance of past liabilities by the executing agency, the J&K Housing Board.
Similarly, the NTPHC Mamoosa project, launched in the same period, has incurred an expenditure of around ₹3.1 crore, including ₹13.5 lakh spent in 2024-25. The building is 95% complete, and authorities aim to finish the remaining work by March 2025, making it available for service in the next financial year.
Health Minister Sakina Itoo further said that both the hospitals, NTPHC Khanpeth and NTPHC Mamoosa, are currently functioning from rented accommodations. However, the building for NTPHC Mamoosa is targeted for completion by March 2025 and could be available in the next financial year for shifting of services.”
“The delay in operationalizing these facilities has drawn criticism from locals, who demand swift action to ensure proper healthcare services in the region. The government has assured that efforts are underway to make these healthcare units fully functional soon,” she added.
