Ganderbal, June 12: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has initiated macadamisation work on the vital Sonamarg to Ranga Morh stretch of the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, offering much-needed relief to commuters and residents.
The BRO has recently deployed men and machinery to carry out the road surfacing work, which had become necessary due to the deteriorated condition of the road caused by heavy snowfall during the winter months. As per reports, the macadamisation work has started at Sonamarg and will continue up to Ranga Morh.
Local residents and regular commuters have welcomed the move, hailing the BRO and administration for addressing the road issue. “The road condition had worsened due to snow, and it was difficult to travel. This macadamisation work has brought us great relief. We are thankful to the BRO and authorities for their timely response,” said a local resident.
The road improvement is particularly crucial as the route is also used by thousands of pilgrims heading toward the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine. The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3 and will conclude on August 9 this year.
In preparation for the yatra, authorities have been working in full swing to ensure all arrangements are in place, including road safety, healthcare facilities, drinking water availability, sanitation, and security measures. The road repair by the BRO is seen as a key step toward ensuring the safe and smooth conduct of the yatra.
