JAMMU, Mar 15: In preparation for the upcoming 2024 LokSabha elections, the Election Commission has sealed a deal with the Jammu & Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) for the provision of buses to facilitate logistical operations across the region. Under the agreed terms, two distinct categories of buses have been hired, each catering to varying seating capacities to accommodate staff and essential election materials.
The official order issued by the Election Commission outlines the rates and conditions of the bus hire. Buses equipped to seat 42/47/52 passengers will be leased at a daily rate of Rs 8381 per bus, while those with seating capacities of 18/19/25/32 individuals will be rented at Rs 7616 per day per bus. These rates encompass the applicable Goods and Services Tax (GST), ensuring a comprehensive financial arrangement.
Crucially, the agreement stipulates that 50% of the total payment will be remitted in advance by the Election Department to JKRTC, demonstrating a commitment to smooth operational execution. Furthermore, the commencement and cessation of hiring activities will be anchored at strategic locations, with Srinagar serving as the focal point for Kashmir Division and Jammu for Jammu Division.
“The hiring and de-hiring shall be reckoned from Srinagar for Kashmir Division, and from Jammu, it shall be reckoned from Jammu for Jammu Division,” the order reads.
In a gesture of goodwill, JKRTC has waived charges for recovery vans and mobile workshops, providing additional support to the electioneering efforts. Notably, these agreed-upon rates will remain in effect until the culmination of the 2024 General elections, ensuring stability and predictability in financial planning.
As per the order, 50% payment shall be made by the Election Department to JKRTC in advance for the two types of buses hired for 2024 General elections.
