Local self-govt has key role in pani samities: DDC Budgam

Budgam, Jan 13: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Budgam on Friday stressed upon the importance of Pani Samitis for their “immense role” in providing adequate water supply and maintaining the cleanliness of the surroundings of water bodies.
Presiding over a Pani Samiti conference at Government Higher School Chadoora, Budgam, the DDC Budgam S F Hamid laid emphasis on encouraging the local communities to take over the rural water supply system for operation and maintenance, and help administration so that the “Har Ghar Nal Se Jal” mission is successful.
The DDC Budgam directed the officers to adhere strictly to the laid guidelines and maintain the highest level of transparency and accountability in the implementation process. He exhorted the officers to put in coordinated efforts to achieve the desired results and meet the timelines targeted for the completion of tasks at all levels. He directed the concerned officers to work with added zeal and determination in the implementation and involvement of Pani Samitis.
On the occasion, the DDC was informed that in 6 blocks of the Sub-District Chadoora falling under the jurisdiction of Jal Shakti PHE Division Chadoora, 32035 households shall be connected for which 59 schemes are under execution which includes 1 borewell, 4 overhead tanks ( small water reservoirs), 28 rapid sand filtration plants and 114 pipe network and allied works.
It was further informed that 212 Pani Samitis have been constituted and 212 village action plans have been prepared and uploaded on the JJM portal. It was also informed that women have been trained for use of field test kits.
Moreover, Pani Samiti meetings are being held regarding water quality monitoring and surveillance. It was apprised that to improve the water quality, labs have been established besides field test kits have also been provided. It was reported 2623 tests have been conducted so far in 6 blocks – Chadoora, BK Pora, Nagam, Chari Shareef, Pakharpora and Surasyar.
Among others, the conference was attended by SDM Chadoora, Executive Engineer PHE Division Chadoora, PRIs, sectoral officers and officials and locals of the area.
