Ganderbal, Dec 11: The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Kangan, under the guidance of Secretary District Legal Service Authority Ganderbal Nusrat Ali Hakak and the supervision of Essar-Ul-Nabi, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Kangan, joined hands with the Human Rights & Anti-Corruption Forum J&K to observe International Human Rights Day.
The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Block Office Kangan, where officials from TLSC Kangan, President of Human Rights & Anti-Corruption Forum J & K, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Khatana, representatives from Block Office Kangan, PRIs (Panchayati Raj Institutions), PLVs (Para Legal Volunteers) of TLSC Kangan, and members of the general public actively participated in the awareness program.
Advocate Sajad Ahmad Khan, addressing the gathering, emphasized the significance of Human Rights Day, celebrated annually on December 10th. “When the rights of one individual are threatened, it undermines the rights of every individual, stressing the collective responsibility to defend these rights,” he said.
Advocate Khan traced the roots of the celebration back to 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly observed World Human Rights Day and adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). He underscored the importance of ensuring everyone is aware of their fundamental rights, which are designed to foster equality and independence.
Officials from the Block Office Kangan, including Ghulam Mohammad Rather and Farooq Ahmad Khatana, President of Human Rights & Anti-Corruption Forum J&K, also delivered insightful speeches on the importance of safeguarding human rights.
As a token of appreciation, certificates were presented to outstanding performers who exhibited exceptional dedication and contributions in their respective fields throughout the year. The ceremony served as a platform to reinforce the commitment to human rights and promote a culture of inclusivity and equality in the region.
