Light rains, hailstorms hit Kashmir, MeT predicts more rainfall

Srinagar, May 13: Light rains lashed plains and isolated places across valley while South Kashmir witnessed hailstorm on Saturday bringing the temperatures down. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain during the next 24 hours in the region.
Director MeT, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that a brief spell of light rain and along with thunderstorms at scattered places occurred in Kashmir on Saturday.
“Weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with possibility of light rain at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir during the next few days. There is no forecast of any major spell of rain in the Valley,” he said.
A traffic police department spokesman from the past 24 hours, Jammu-Srinagar highway remained blocked for more than 15 hrs due to filling of potholes at Mehad, C-N Tunnel closed for 14 hours and overturn of Mini bus at Dalwas slide
 He said on Sunday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar highway. TCU Jammu, Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.
Similarly, on the Srinagar-Leh Road, only one way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed. These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg, LMVs at 06:30hrs. to 0730 hrs. followed by HMVs upto 0930 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing., the spokesman said.
On historic Mughal Road, only one way traffic for LMVs from Shopian towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal Road. These vehicles shall be allowed from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch at 1000 hrs. upto 1400 hrs, he said.
