Leh, Feb 19: Leaders from the Apex Body of Leh and the Kargil Democratic Alliance held a significant meeting with the high-powered committee of the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi on Monday.
The primary focus of the meeting was to address key demands, including statehood for Ladakh, its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, and the establishment of an exclusive Public Service Commission for the region.
The forthcoming discussions, scheduled for February 24 (Saturday), aim to thoroughly explore these demands. To facilitate this process, a joint sub-committee has been established, comprising members from both the Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance. Notable figures such as Thupstan Chhewang, Chering Dorjay Lakrook, and Nawang Rigzin Jora will represent the Apex Body, while Qamar Ali Akhoon, Asgar Ali Karbalai, and Sajjad Kargili will represent the KDA.
With all sub-committee members currently in Delhi, there is growing anticipation for constructive dialogue in the upcoming sessions. The plans for a hunger strike, initially scheduled to commence on February 20, 2024, have been postponed, underscoring the importance of the ongoing negotiations.
