Srinagar, June 28: In a significant step towards empowering and protecting the rights of children, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences Kashmir (IMHANS-K), Saturday organized a comprehensive legal awareness programme focusing on ‘Legal Provisions for Vulnerable Children, Children’s Rights and the Remedies Available through Legal Services.’
In an official statement issued here, the programme was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and supervised by Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar. The event aimed at raising awareness about child protection laws, constitutional and legal rights of children, and the mechanisms available for ensuring legal aid and assistance to children in need of care and protection. It also shed light on the pivotal role of legal services institutions in promoting access to justice for every child, especially those facing mental health, social, or economic vulnerabilities.
Advocate Malik Fahad Ul Haq and Advocate Syed Shabana Kausar, Panel Lawyers and active members of the Legal Services Unit for Children, served as the key resource persons. They provided insightful presentations and engaged the participants in interactive discussions on child rights, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, POCSO Act, and other vital legislations. The resource persons highlighted how timely legal intervention, counselling, and awareness can help prevent the exploitation and marginalization of children and ensure their holistic development.
