Jammu and Kashmir has been used by the imperialist powers as the theatre of war to hinder India rise. Whether it was the cold war or the time of British exit from India after the independence. The imperialist designs have eclipsed Jammu and Kashmir. The creation of Pakistan and the invasion of Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistani army regulars disguised as tribals tell a comprehensive reality that Jammu and Kashmir was embroiled in the Great Game to dismantle the Northern Frontiers. It was a well-crafted policy to use Pakistan as a proxy to weaken Indian borders and push the imperialist agenda even when the British were not present on the Indian soil physically. It was clear ploy of balkanising India. Its roots can be seen in the utterings of the Winston Churchill, who doubted the Indian stability after independence. But all the imperialist hypotheses and stratagems have failed. As India not only overcame the imperial legacy of divide and rule but also emerged as one of the economic and military giants of the world. It defeated all Pakistani machinations to dismember India and ended in breaking Pakistan in 1971 besides defeating it in 1965 war. But United kingdom is still in reverie of pre independence and resorting to archaic tactics of arm twisting India in Jammu and Kashmir. The recent visit of United Kindgom’s High Commissioner ,Jane Marriott to Mirpur in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir(POJK) on Wednesday should be seen in this context. She has invited the reprimand of the Ministry of External affairs (MEA) for this and rightly so. MEA has termed her visit to Mirpur as “unacceptable”. The Ministry in its statement has termed this visit as an infringement of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Foreign Secretary, Mohan Kwatra has lodged a protest with the British High Commissioner in India, Alex Ellis. Jane Marriott has justified her visit to Mirpur and in her social media post on X said that 70% of the British Pakistani people have their roots in Mirpur. She has also posted pictures of this visit with this post. MEA has termed this visit as highly “objectionable”. Mirpur is located in Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK).It is Indian Territory under the illegal occupation of Pakistan. Legally erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir had acceded to India like more than 500 princely states by signing the same standard form of Instrument of Accession as signed by other princely states. By sending an envoy to this occupied territory, UK is indulging in deliberate diplomatic offensive by giving legitimacy to Pakistan over the Indian Territory. The envoy exceeded her brief and met the business community there. To make the matters worse she has said that the people from Mirpur who had migrated in 1950’s and 1960’s to UK have a dual Pakistani-British citizenship. This is mischievous positioning to test Indian tolerance. It is pertinent to mention that last year in October, the US envoy to Pakistan, Donald Blome had also visited POJK. At that time also, New Delhi objected to his visit. And urged US to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of India. At that time he had visited Gilgit-Baltistan. That is again the part of erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir and an integral part of India. These visits by the envoys are meant to violate the Indian sovereignty and to give legitimacy to Pakistan for its occupation of Jammu and Kashmir territories. Besides it is meant to create dispute on Jammu and Kashmir. After the neutralisation of Article 370 and 35 A in 2019 that also enabled the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir. All disputes have ended and further scope for the reorganisation has opened in the erstwhile princely state. Not only has that Indian Government kept 25 seats reserved for the POJK. There is a unanimous Parliament Resolution passed on February 22, 1994 reaffirming that all the territories of POJK under illegal occupation of Pakistan are integral part of India and thus, need to be liberated and integrated with the rest of India. It is only a matter of time that the areas under Pakistani occupation will be liberated. Indian claim on POJK is legitimate. As such and attempt to violate it will be defeated with the national will. And by calling POJK as POK is also misleading. Most of the areas of Jammu and Kashmir under Pakistani occupation are non –Kashmiri speaking. So in all communications and references it must be addressed as POJK.As it includes majority areas of Jammu that don’t speak Kashmiri.
