Baramulla, May 23: Authorities have directed the property owners and landlords in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to maintain a proper registry of their tenants.
An official told Rising Kashmir that the directive, issued under Section 133 and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to the maintenance of law and order, aims to hold property owners accountable and enhance security measures within the district.
The decision comes in response to apprehensions regarding potential security risks posed by undocumented tenants.
According to an official order, to mitigate the security concerns, all landlords and property owners in District Baramulla, both current and prospective, are mandated to maintain a detailed record of their tenants.
The order states that there can be serious security apprehensions for the common citizens and for that, steps should be taken to make the property owners/ landlords accountable by making them keep proper records of the tenants.
All the landlords/property owners of district Baramulla, who have rented out or intend to rent out their properties, are directed to maintain a proper registry of the tenant(s) containing all the particulars thereof in pursuance to Section 133 and relevant provisions of IPC about maintenance of law and order, the order mentions.
It also said that the registry should include comprehensive particulars such as the tenant’s name, address, purpose of stay, copy of identity proof, and any other relevant documentation or information.
“Furthermore, within two days of renting out their properties or within two days of the issuance of this order, property owners must submit the aforementioned information to the relevant Police Station or Police Post, as applicable,” the order states, adding that the submission should be in the form of a signed document, endorsed by both the landlord and the tenant(s).
The officials said the measure aims to promote a safer environment for residents and to bolster security efforts in district Baramulla.
