Ladakh, Sept 23: In a groundbreaking move aimed at boosting tourism in the mesmerizing Ladakh Union Territory, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given nod for foreign tourists to visit and enjoy overnight stays in the picturesque Hanley village. The decision comes as a significant amendment to the ‘Protected and Restricted Areas’ section of the Visa Manual, 2019, underlining the government’s unwavering commitment to promoting tourism in the region.
Tashi Gyalson, Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Leh, expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Lt. Governor of UT Ladakh, Retd. Brig. Dr. B D Mishra for their enthusiastic approval of foreign tourists’ night stays in Hanley village. He also commended the Home Ministry for its tireless efforts in opening up Martsemik and Sko valley for tourism and trekking activities.
These significant developments are poised to play a pivotal role in not only promoting Border Tourism but also in enriching the rural economy in the border areas of Ladakh.
Meanwhile, the MHA had already granted permission for foreign tourists to visit and stay in Hanley, specifically for the upcoming Ladakh Nomadic Festival scheduled to be held from July 15 to 16. This strategic decision is expected to not only spotlight the region’s rich cultural heritage but also attract globetrotters from around the world, offering them a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the unparalleled beauty and traditions of Ladakh.
