Ladakh, Apr 27: The electoral atmosphere in Ladakh has intensified as the nomination process for the region’s parliamentary seat began on Friday, marking the commencement of preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Ladakh, represented by a single parliamentary constituency, will join 48 other constituencies across eight states and one union territory in the fifth phase of the general elections.
Under the guidance of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Returning Officer (RO) for Ladakh’s parliamentary constituency, Santosh Sukhadeve, initiated the election process by issuing the Election Notification. The RO conducted a press conference to announce the commencement of nominations for the parliamentary elections. Interested candidates can file their nomination papers at designated offices in Leh and Kargil until 3rd May, adhering to the specified timeline outlined by the election schedule.
Nomination forms will undergo scrutiny on 4th May at the RO’s office in Ladakh, with a deadline for withdrawal of nominations set for 6th May. The constituency is scheduled to go to polls on 20th May 2024, with polling stations open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already announced its candidate for Ladakh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, replacing sitting MP Jamyang Tsering.
