Leh, Jan 04: Ladakh is all set to hosts the much-anticipated ice events of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) from January 23 to 27, this year.
The scenic region, known for its breathtaking landscapes and chilly winters, is ready to welcome athletes and enthusiasts for a five-day celebration of winter sports.
This year’s edition of KIWG promises to be bigger and better, with ice hockey, figure skating, and speed skating competitions being the highlights. Athletes will compete in these events, showcasing their skills and vying for glory against the backdrop of Ladakh’s frozen beauty. Officials have been working tirelessly to ensure world-class infrastructure and seamless arrangements for participants and visitors. Local communities, too, are excited to be part of this grand sporting event, which not only promotes winter sports but also highlights Ladakh’s unique cultural heritage and natural beauty. The Khelo India Winter Games aim to encourage youth participation in sports, identify talent at grassroots levels, and put India on the global map of winter sports.
This will be the third year running that UT Ladakh will host a portion of the Khelo India Winter Games. Before the 2024 edition, J&K used to host all the events. Leh successfully hosted ice events like skating and hockey in February 2024 last year. Gulmarg, like always, hosted the snow events like skiing and snowboarding.
