Srinagar, Dec 29: In a move to boost tourism, Kupwara is set to redefine its landscape as a growing travel destination. Embracing the culture of community engagement, the district has embraced the concept of homestays, with locals actively participating to enhance the tourism experience.
Highlighting the essential beauty of Kupwara, the Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Jammu Kashmir Syed Abid Rashid expressed confidence about the district’s becoming a national hotspot. The recent accolade bestowed upon Lolab Valley serves as evidence of Kupwara’s allure, garnering recognition across the country.
Addressing a gathering, Dr Syed Abdi Rasheed Shah highlighted Kupwara’s global fame for its natural splendour and the intellectual wealth of its people. The Secretary of Tourism echoed this sentiment, foreseeing Kupwara ascending to the top echelons of the country’s districts, propelled by its people’s capabilities and the inherent beauty of the region.
The district holds vast tourism potential, offering employment and livelihood opportunities for the youth. Rather than focusing on a single attraction, the entire district, including Tangdar and Keran, has attracted significant tourist numbers – approximately 100,000 to Tangdar and 60,000 to Keran.
Highlighting community involvement, the district aims to enhance tourism infrastructure, with a unique approach of promoting homestays. The Secretary of Tourism & Culture envisions Kupwara becoming a prominent tourist destination, citing the recent recognition of Lolab Valley as a testament to the district’s natural beauty.
Vice Chairman of the District Development Council, Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir, extended gratitude to the Secretary of Tourism for championing Lolab and securing its status as the best offbeat tourist destination in the nation. Mir urged the Secretary to play a pivotal role in developing tourism infrastructure, proposing the organization of a winter tourism festival in Lolab, celebrated for its natural beauty, rich culture, and heritage.
Emphasizing Kupwara’s unique potential for border tourism, Mir underscored the need to tap into this distinctive offering.
