Kulgam, Dec 28: Police officials in Kulgam have been distributing tea and biscuits to stranded passengers along the national highway after snowfall disrupted normal life on Saturday.
An official said that after hectic efforts on Friday evening, traffic was cleared, and the halted vehicles in the Qazigund section were allowed to proceed towards Srinagar.
He added that stranded passengers and truckers heading towards Jammu were provided refreshments along the highway.
“Kulgam police, in a display of prompt action and commitment to public service, provided necessary assistance to stranded tourists at Khudwani Qaimoh,” police said.
Police said that, they saved the life of a cardiac patient, Nawaz Ahmad Mallah, a resident of Adigam, Devsar, by promptly shifting him to a nearby hospital despite heavy snowfall and slippery roads.
In another instance, police responded to a distress call and ensured the timely evacuation of a woman from Chirhama, Mirbazar, to a hospital.
Meanwhile, to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety during ongoing snowfall, the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and SSP Kulgam, along with jurisdictional officers, conducted overnight inspections at the Navayuga Tunnel, NHW, and other critical locations.
