Kulgam admin raises awareness on Earth Day

Urges people to avoid single-use plastic and polythene

Kulgam, Apr 22:The administration in Kulgam celebrated World Earth Day on Monday, focusing on this year’s theme of ‘Planet vs. Plastics’ to promote a clean environment among the general populace.

An official said that in observance of World Earth Day in Kulgam, an awareness rally was led by the Tehsildar of Kulgam, accompanied by the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Kulgam and students.

The program was organized under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kulgam by the tehsil administration, in collaboration with the Municipal Council Kulgam and the education department.

According to Bilal Ahmad, Tehsildar of Kulgam, World Earth Day is commemorated every year on April 22nd. He said that they conducted an outreach program on Monday, aiming to educate and raise awareness among people about the importance of avoiding single-use plastic.

He said that this year’s theme for World Earth Day was ‘Planet vs. Plastics,’ and that their is need to contribute towards building a plastic and polythene-free environment.
“We organized an awareness rally, plantation drive, and also cleaned several canals. We celebrated the day with the theme in mind and contributed to removing plastic and polythene from the environment, ensuring its proper disposal,” he added.
He further said that keeping our surroundings clean, free from plastic, polythene, or any garbage is what we need to practice day in and day out. This will help us build a green, safe, and pollution-free society.
