Srinagar, Oct 17:  A two-day training of trainers workshop on National Education Policy-2020 started at the University of Kashmir on Monday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan chaired the inaugural session of the programme, organised by the varsity’s NEP Cell that works under the aegis of the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Addressing the participants drawn from the university’s teaching departments and affiliated colleges, Prof Nilofer said the KU has already taken a lead in developing curriculum for NEP-2020 and has admitted the first batch of students in its colleges under the new policy. She said the policy was implemented in the UT after several rounds of detailed deliberations at the level of J&K Higher Education Department as well as the University.

“We are hopeful of positive results as the NEP finds its way from colleges to the university eventually,” she said, adding that any improvements required during the ongoing process of NEP implementation would be taken care of.

Prof Nilofer said the University will soon seek feedback from colleges and other stakeholders regarding different aspects of NEP to make “course correction, wherever needed.”

The Vice-Chancellor complimented the NEP cell for organising regular sensitisation programmes for smooth implementation of the flagship policy.

Prof Sudhanshu Bhushan, Head, Department of Higher and Professional Education, NIEPA, delivered the keynote address. Prof Bhushan highlighted the importance of joint teaching, joint research and joint publications by incentivising multidisciplinary research in universities.

He also talked about the need for “enough deliberations” related to pedagogic restructuring including restructuring of curricula, entry-exit points, duration of degrees etc. and putting in place the requisite Statutes and Ordinances in this regard well in advance.

Dean Academics KU Prof Farooq A Masoodi advocated for a “bottom up approach” to critically analyse different dimensions related to offering multidisciplinary education.

Coordinator NEP Cell Dr Farzana Gulzar said such workshops are aimed to mentor a smooth transition to NEP-2020.

The two-day event will see deliberations by noted experts on varied aspects of NEP-2020.

Abdullah Danish Sherwani, Liaison Officer NEP Cell delivered the vote of thanks.
