Srinagar, Feb 15: To strengthen the adoption of online learning and integrate SWAYAM courses into academic programs,University of Kashmir (KU) organized a one-day outreach workshop on ‘Integration and implementation of SWAYAM courses across universities and affiliated colleges in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh’ here on Saturday.
The workshop was organised in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. It aimed to raise awareness about the adoption of SWAYAM courses for credit accumulation and providing interdisciplinary learning opportunities for students in higher education.
Prof. Manish R. Joshi, the Secretary of the University Grants Commission emphasized the necessity for universities to permit students to engage in online courses via SWAYAM platform nationwide.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Prof. Joshi described SWAYAM as a comprehensive online digital platform that offers a wide array of courses, providing free access to quality education for students. He noted that examinations for these courses are conducted, and the certificates awarded hold significant value for students’ future prospects.
“The SWAYAM platform is highly advantageous, and we encourage all students to utilize it. While many students are already taking advantage of this resource, we urge universities to facilitate its use. The University Grants Commission has communicated to all universities that 40 percent of their courses can be conducted online through the SWAYAM platform, particularly if a university offers ten courses,” UGC Secretary said.
He further expressed the desire for universities to enhance facilities for students to pursue these online courses, highlighting the ongoing SWAYAM outreach workshops being conducted in various states across the country.
When inquired about the number of universities utilizing SWAYAM platform, he revealed that 350 universities across India have adopted it.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, Professor Nilofar Khan said ,”There are numerous high-quality courses available at various universities throughout our country. Students from any state can enroll in courses from any university via the Swayam platform, allowing them to learn from different faculty members and gain valuable knowledge,” she said.
